Castello di Montalto is in the heart of Tuscany, 30 minutes east of Siena.
If you are traveling directly to the wedding we recommend flying to one of the airports below:
| Airport | Car to venue | |
|---|---|---|
| Pisa (Aeroporto Internazionale Galileo Galilei Pisa) | 2hrs drive | |
| Rome Fiumicino (Aeroporto internazionale Leonardo da Vinci) | 2hrs 45min drive | |
| Rome Ciampino (Aeroporto "G.B. Pastine" di Roma Ciampino) | 2hrs 30min drive | |
| Bologna (Aeroporto di Bologna) | 2hrs 10min drive |
Trains in Italy are fast and affordable, but we recommend hiring a car to travel to the venue due its remote location.
If you would like to take the train then there are great train links to Florence (Firenze) from Bologna (45min), Pisa (1hr), and Roma (1hr 30min - 3hr). From Florence you can take a regional train to Siena or bus to Castelnuovo Berardenga.
If you plan to take public transport to Siena please let us know in the RSVP and we'll arrange a pick-up to Castello di Montalto.
Visit the Trenitalia website to book trains, and the further in advance you book the better the price.
If you don't plan to go directly to the wedding, and would like to make a holiday of your trip then there's lots of options, depending on how adventurous you're feeling.
You can travel the length of Italy quickly and cheaply by train, so you can start your tour almost anywhere: Roma, Napoli, Milano, Venezia, and more. Whether you plan to start with the Colosseum in Rome, or the ruins of Pompeii in the bay of Naples, you will want to end up in Florence (Firenze).
The historic centre of Florence is fairly small, but there's lots to see and can easily take you 2-3 days if you want. But you can also use it as a base to visit some beautiful spots in the rest of Tuscany, either by train or by car (recommended).
Some recommendations to start with:
The castle of Montalto in Toscana is a medieval hamlet with over 1000 years of history, surrounded by woods and farmland in the lovely and unspoiled Chianti hills near Siena.
The castle has 10 private villas and apartments, with a total of 22 en-suite rooms, accommodating up to 45 guests. It also has a private chapel, banquet room, outdoor swimming pool, and tennis court.
We have booked the entire venue exclusively from 4pm Friday 31st August 2021, to 10am Friday 3rd September 2021.
We invite all guests to join us for the whole 3 days and 3 nights, but if you can only make part of the weekend please let us know in the RSVP form.
There are enough rooms for all guests and we'll allocate apartments and rooms after we've received all RSVPs. We'll speak to everyone individually about their rooms and we'll ask for a small contribution towards the accommodation of €60 per adult per night. We'll ask for contributions at the end of October 2020 and provide bank details then.
Tuesday 31st August (from 4pm) - Arrival and we have arranged for an al fresco Pizza night.
Wednesday 1st September - Wedding ceremony, meal and evening celebrations.
Thursday 2nd September - Relax, enoy the venue, and the Tuscan surround, and evening BBQ.
Friday 3rd September AM - Depart.
If you would like to stay for longer than the 3 nights please (both before and after) let us know and we can arrange discounted rates for you.
